Almost Home Birth Center and Inner Prosperity
By Brooke Pederson-Bloome

Carey Ann Ryan with Almost Home Birth Center and Gentle Birth Clinic, Rita T. Henry, Malabika Shaw and Richard Swarzentruber with Inner Prosperity explained that they have collaborated to help us all go through life in peace and harmony. They would like to introduce you to what they describe as a safe haven where new life begins, people’s lives are transformed, and spirits are healed. It’s all under one roof at 2708 Grand Avenue in Des Moines.

Let’s start by telling you about what Almost Home Birth Center has to offer. They are here to help an expectant mother who is looking to design her own birthing experience in a safe, cost-effective and empowering way.

According to the National Association of Childbearing Centers, a birth center is a homelike facility where providers focus on “high-touch” rather than “high-tech” care. Owner of Almost Home Birth Center, Carey Ann said, “Mothers appreciate the total absence of invasive procedures. There is no routine prep or enema or IV. There is no continuous electronic fetal monitoring that keeps a mother in bed, tethered to a machine, because for low risk pregnancies that is unnecessary. The baby’s heartbeat is monitored intermittently by a handheld doppler, allowing the mother the freedom to walk around or relax in a Jacuzzi, a shower, a rocking chair, or in a comfortable queen-sized bed.”

Advanced practice nurse midwives typically provide care within the birth center setting. Nurse midwives are master prepared specialists who have completed four years of undergraduate training to become a registered nurse and at least two additional years of specialized study in the independent management of normal newborns and women during prenatal care, labor and delivery, and gynecological care.

Carey Ann presented what one parent had to say about her experience with Carey Ann and her staff, “As I sit holding my baby boy in my arms, the pain of bringing him here seems insignificant. By the same token, when I was in the process of bringing him into the world, the pain was secondary to my satisfaction at being in control of how I got through the pain. Being able to move around and having my nurses and midwife striving to make me more comfortable, not feeling that I needed to receive permission to move or accommodate myself. I love my midwife and I proudly recommend Almost Home (Birth Center) to every expectant mom I meet.”

Carey explained, “When expectant mothers first walk into the Center, they feel more as if they are entering a bed and breakfast than a place to have a baby. Absent are the machines, the lights, the beeps, the overhead sounds that call people to the emergencies. It seems that women who come to a birth center are looking for the calm and peaceful type of environment that supports their own creative and unique ways to give birth to their babies. They also are never separated from their baby. Any treatments or exams that are done to the baby are always done in front of the parents so that they can learn about their baby. So, if you want to have your baby in a place where your wishes are respected, this may be the place for you.” AlmostHomeBirthcenter.com will also help answer your questions or you may call Carey Ann Ryan at 282-8400.

In the “womb” of the lower level of 2708 Grand is Inner Prosperity. Rita, Malabika, and Richard are ready to receive you. Rita T. Henry, a healing and life coach invites you to discover who you really are. Her positive attitude and inner enlightenment seem to shine throughout the lower level.

Rita shares, “We are taught to look outside ourselves instead of looking within. The journey inside is the connection with who we are. Sometimes we are running patterns and scripts that do not serve us, and often we are not aware. Through body energy work we are supported in releasing blocks that keep us from experiencing the love that we are.” Rita explained that our bodies heal naturally whether we are experiencing mental, emotional, or physical pain or feeling detached from our spirit. Body energy work creates the environment to support your healing and connection with self.

Rita shared what one participant said, “I feel so much more connected, together and confident that I can do everything that I need to get done and still have time to play. Life just feels better!”

If you want to experience that same feeling, Rita invites you to schedule a session with her. She said to be ready to receive a connection with health and vibrancy.

One door down from Rita you’ll meet another loving soul, Malabika Shaw. Malabika is also a practitioner of the energy healing arts and is a certified consultant in Spiritual Response Therapy, Spiritual Restructuring, Reiki Master/Teacher and Breathwork and offers both classes and private sessions. Malabika said that her extensive studies, along with her own experiences, support you in a connection with self. Malabika explained that she has more than 25 years of experience in the field of training and management education. She continues to offer consultation in leadership and transformation of organizational energy. You may contact her at 720-9520 or malabika@innerprosperityinc.com.

Now meet Richard Swarzentruber, a licensed massage therapist, Reiki Master/Teacher, and pranic healer. Richard said that he’s been practicing for more than 12 years and uses complementary healing modalities to work with the body’s own energy fields and with the client’s own higher power to assist in the healing process. Richard practices sports massage, Swedish massage, chair/seated massage, infant massage, geriatric massage, and pre and postnatal massage. Ready to pamper yourself for an hour of relaxation? Call 321-1628.

Along with offering private sessions for their clients, Inner Prosperity also facilitates classes in meditation, A Course in Miracles, Reiki, Feng Shui, Spiritual Response Therapy, Male/Female Communication and Sexuality, and weekend retreats and workshops.
